About editing South Asian languages

The feature or some of the options described in this Help topic are only available if support for the appropriate South Asian language is enabled through Microsoft Office Language Settings.

South Asian languages supported in Microsoft Outlook present differences to text editing that are not generally encountered in other languages. South Asian languages use diacritics, tone marks, and accents added to simple characters to transform them into more complex characters.

This language attribute requires additional action to perform standard editing and to change a character's associated markings. For example, the editing methods used to insert and delete South Asian characters are based on the progression that forms characters along with their associated diacritics, tone marks, and accents.

When you delete South Asian text, you might delete the entire character including all markings, or you might delete only an individual marking. Depending on what marking is deleted, the new character may or may not be a correct character according to the language's conventions.

To help you determine the correctness of characters, Outlook checks the sequence in which they appear. Also, Outlook makes logical substitutions for you.

Note  Microsoft Word provides several enhancements to editing text in South Asian languages. You can use these features in Outlook if you use Word as your e-mail editor, (On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab. Select the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box). See the Help in South Asian versions of Word for more information on the features available to you.
